Una parella britànica parteix del Pol Nord Magnètic, emprenent una aventura per primera vegada al món al seu Nissan Ariya elèctric
Envoltats d’un vast gel àrtic cobert de neu, els aventurers Chris i Julie Ramsey van començar oficialment la seva molt esperada expedició de Pol a Pol. El viatge per davant els veurà conduir cap al sud més de 27.000 km a través d’Amèrica del Nord, Central i del Sud, amb l’objectiu final d’arribar al lloc més remot del món, el Pol Sud de l’Antàrtida, al desembre.
Cap vehicle no ha completat el viatge entre aquests dos extrems del món i l’equip de Pole to Pole està emprenent el desafiament en un vehicle 100% elèctric. Chris i Julie s’han embarcat en el viatge per mostrar com són de capaços i emocionants els vehicles elèctrics, amb l’esperança d’accelerar la seva adopció com una acció positiva contra la crisi climàtica.
El Nissan Ariya, llest per a l’expedició, ha patit algunes modificacions menors per ajudar-lo a fer front als terrenys extrems que l’equip enfrontarà al llarg de la ruta. El més notable és que la suspensió s’ha aixecat i els passos de roda s’han estès per acomodar enormes pneumàtics de 39 polzades que ajudaran l’automòbil a “flotar” a la neu profunda de l’Àrtic i el gel marí. No es van fer modificacions a la bateria i al tren motriu de l’Ariya, que segueixen sent estàndard, o al sistema e-4ORCE, l’avançada tecnologia elèctrica de control de les quatre rodes de Nissan.
A mesura que la parella viatja a través de les remotes regions polars, remolcaran una unitat d’energia renovable innovadora, que inclou una turbina eòlica extensible i panells solars plegables. El prototip aprofitarà els forts vents esperats i les llargues hores de llum, aprofitant l’energia natural per carregar la bateria de l’Ariya, mentre que Chris i Julie prenen merescuts descansos de conduir al desafiant entorn. L’equip espera que la innovació de càrrega pugui tenir un llegat positiu en inspirar una transició als vehicles elèctrics per a la futura exploració polar.
